Double Bass Concerto, Op.3 for bass and piano by Serge Koussevitzky

Urtext edition by Tobias Glockler. Published by Henle.

Russian-American conductor Serge Koussevitzky (1874-1951) is perhaps best-known, especially in America, for his legendary directorship of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He was also an accomplished double-bassist and he composed several works for the instrument, including (with assistence from Reinhold Gliere) a concerto, Op.3, premiered in 1905. Its attractive Romantic melody and dazzling virtuosity has made it a popular mainstay of the classical bassist's repertory. For many years, however, it has suffered from printings of significant manuscript and publishing errors. This new Henle urtext edition from Tobias Glockler draws from many sources and research to present a new standard edition for this warhorse of the bass repertory. Contains historical and critical commentary and marked and unmarked parts, as well as piano accompaniments in two keys (E and F-sharp minor) for performance in orchestral or solo tuning. Mastery level, Grade 6.
