Full-Time Front Staff Associate

Johnson String Instrument is hiring violinists, violists, cellists, and double bassists to join our storefront team of customer service representatives.

Front Staff Associates are tasked with providing a superior customer service experience to all who visit the store, and overall promote the joy of music! Our storefront is a vibrant place where we assist string players of all levels.

Primary duties include

Processing POS transactions using a cash register and software especially developed for Johnson String Instrument, completing rental instrument contracts, assisting in the selection of rental string instruments for customers, learning about the company's wide range of products and services in order to answer customer inquiries, pulling merchandise for shipping orders, and assisting in the maintenance of the storefront accessible to customers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

In addition to being a string player, applicants need to be personable, have a professional demeanor, customer service/retail experience, a positive attitude, and excellent communication skills. Applicants should enjoy working as part of a team and be self-motivated. This is an active role, and applicants must be comfortable standing for up to 4 hours at a time.

Full-time

40hrs/wk, with required Saturday hours. Applicants should be prepared to have availability for all business hours, which includes Wednesday evenings.

Starting salary

$15/hour.

This position offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health and dental insurance plans, retirement savings with company match, paid time off, and vacation accruals.

Full-Time School Program Specialist

Johnson String Instrument’s Teacher Services team allows the company to bring its trademark stellar personal service to customers throughout New England and New York, and in an ever-expanding radius. School Program Specialists represent the company on the road and work primarily with string teachers, who are among JSI’s most important clients. Specialists are tasked with providing a superior customer service experience through visits to schools and studios.

Within JSI, this is a close-knit team of dedicated employees. We work hard but have our fun, too, and try to balance out the sometimes long hours with a fair amount of flexibility the rest of the year. If you are someone who appreciates variety and personal responsibility in a job, and if you are someone who likes working extra hours (overtime rates apply), this may be a good fit for you.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and comfort operating 20-foot vans
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability and availability to work long hours when needed
  • Weeknight availability during the month of September
  • Comfort learning a bowed string instrument on a rudimentary level
  • Must pass a CORI/background check

$15/hour.

$15/hour, in addition to generous employee discounts on products and services. Employees may also have use of a complimentary rental instrument during their employment.

Seasonal Rental Delivery Assistant - Fall 2018

Seasonal role starting fall 2018: Work the hours you can! $$ bonus offered if you complete at least 100 hours with satisfactory performance between 8/25 and 10/5/18!

Johnson String Instrument’s Rental Delivery Department brings the personal experience of visiting our storefront to the customer! Rental Delivery Assistants join full-time JSI staff visiting schools to meet with families, size players for instruments, and walk customers through the rental process. Assistants are tasked with providing a superior customer service experience to all, and are also responsible for helping to load instruments in and out of the van and recording transactions accurately and thoroughly.

Qualifications

  • Professional demeanor
  • Availability to work weekday afternoons and evenings
  • Access to a reliable vehicle: must have transportation to events at schools
  • Ability to pass a CORI check: will be working with both adult and child customers
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for up to 4 hours, and bend to access items

Shipping Assistant

Johnson String Instrument, New England's premier violin shop, is seeking a full-time shipper to assist the Shipping Manager with all shipping and order fulfillment tasks.

Job requirements

  • Shipping experience required; experience working with carriers such as UPS and USPS
  • Punctuality and a can-do attitude
  • Strong computer skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with a team in a fast-paced warehouse environment
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time

Position responsibilities

  • Pick, pack, and ship orders to be delivered to domestic and international customers
  • Process orders via computer and generate shipping labels
  • Handle high-value shipments appropriately
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness and safety
  • Assemble boxes and organize packing materials
  • Work with other departments to fulfill special needs and requests
  • Assist shipping manager with other tasks as necessary
  • Must have a valid drivers license to transfer product from both locations

Full time position

40hrs per week, Monday - Friday, some weekend overtime required during the busy holiday season. Full benefits including paid time off, paid vacation, health insurance and retirement accounts with employer matching.
