Part-Time Front Staff Associate

Johnson String Instrument is hiring violinists, violists, cellists, and double bassists to join our storefront team of customer service representatives.

Front Staff Associates are tasked with providing a superior customer service experience to all who visit the store, and overall promote the joy of music! Our storefront is a vibrant place where we assist string players of all levels.

Primary duties include: processing POS transactions using a cash register and software especially developed for Johnson String Instrument, completing rental instrument contracts, assisting in the selection of rental string instruments for customers, learning about the company's wide range of products and services in order to answer customer inquiries, pulling merchandise for shipping orders, and assisting in the maintenance of the storefront accessible to customers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

In addition to being a string player, applicants need to be personable, have a professional demeanor, a positive attitude, and excellent communication skills. Applicants should enjoy working as part of a team and be self-motivated. This is an active role, and applicants must be comfortable standing for up to 4 hours at a time.

Part-time: 24-28hrs/wk. Schedule consists of three weekdays roughly 10am-6pm, and Saturdays 9am-5pm.

Starting salary: $15/hour, in addition to generous employee discounts on products and services. Employees may also have use of a complimentary rental instrument during their employment.

Part-Time Office Associate

Johnson String Instrument is looking for a friendly part-time office associate with excellent people skills to join our customer service team. Are you a string player? Does the opportunity to spread the joy of music excite you? Apply to join our team!

Key Responsibilities

The office associate is responsible for providing the highest level of customer service to ensure the customer has the best experience possible. As the first point of contact, the office associate will answer customer inquiries and follow-up on action items with other departments to see tasks through to completion.

In addition, the office associate is responsible to perform a variety of administrative duties including, but not limited to:

  • Registration for rental instruments, including phone interaction with students, teachers and parents of rental participants.¥
  • Take product orders, including strings, sheet music, cases, and accessories.
  • Answer telephone calls, web chats, and emails- screening and routing to appropriate staff as necessary.
  • Various clerical duties such as filing, mailing, organizing, and processing returned items.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and ongoing training regarding products and policies.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as directed or required

Skills and Qualifications

  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Able to multitask on time-sensitive projects
  • Attention to detail, especially through documentation
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, flexible work environment
  • Stringed instrument and/or classical music background strongly preferred
  • Sense of humor strongly encouraged
  • Basic computer skills required

Full-Time Receiving Warehouse Associate

Johnson String Instrument is seeking a full-time receiving associate to join our warehouse team in our Waltham, MA location!

The office associate is responsible for providing the highest level of customer service to ensure the customer has the best experience possible. As the first point of contact, the office associate will answer customer inquiries and follow-up on action items with other departments to see tasks through to completion.

Overview of Position
The JSI Warehouse is a dynamic and fluid department. Inbound shipments arrive every day from all over the world. The Receiving department is responsible for handling and cataloging the inbound items and distributing them to the appropriate departments within the company.

Job Responsibilities

  • Receiving, labeling and distributing of product daily
  • Sign for inbound shipments from UPS, FedEx and other Freight companies
  • Process all rental and trial instrument returns
  • Physically and virtually move inventory and instruments between warehouses. Organize product stock as needed
  • Learn about a wide variety of products and answer customer service representative questions
  • Assist in the facilities maintenance of the warehouse and receiving area
  • Drive company van between warehouse and Newton location, daily or as necessary, transporting instruments, product, or other high-value items
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • This is an active role; Employees spend their shifts sitting, standing, walking around, and using stairs
  • Must be physically able to lift boxes, products, and instruments (up to 75 lbs.). Must be able to bend and lift over your head
  • The employee must be comfortable standing or sitting for up to 4 hours at a time
  • This job operates in a warehouse environment. This role routinely uses standard warehouse equipment such as box cutters, pallet jacks, bar code scanners, two-wheelers/dollies, rolling stairs or step stools, computers,phones, photocopiers and printers. Will be required to drive company vans. Work takes place indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures

Previous experience in a high-volume warehouse environment and knowledge of music products are preferred but not required.

Full time position; 40hrs/week, Monday-Friday, some overtime required during busy season. Full benefits package includes paid holidays, paid time off and vacation accruals, employer-sponsored health and dental insurance plans, and retirement plans with matching.

Delivery Drivers

Johnson String Instrument is seeking delivery drivers with clean driving records and experience driving cargo vans.

Drivers are responsible for accompanying a full-time employee on one-day round trips to and from schools in New York City. Loading instruments in and out of the van, sharing highway driving, navigating city, and staying with the van if parking cannot be found.

Applicants must have good communication skills and be able to work well on a team. Must be comfortable driving in New York City and working long hours.

Temporary: This position is offered on a temporary basis, with option to extend to contract or discuss full-time employment.
