Full-Time Luthier, Carriage House Violins

Carriage House Violins of Johnson String Instrument is hiring a Full-Time Luthier

Are you a trained violin maker or restorer with experience restoring and repairing antique and contemporary violins, violas, and cellos? Carriage House Violins, the instrument sales and restoration division of JSI, offers every serious stringed instrument player a lifetime of opportunity, convenience, service, and support.

As luthier, you will add your skills to our workshop team in maintaining a high quality of sound and performance for the instruments that we represent as well as those owned by players in our community. You would be working within our beautiful and historic building in Newton Upper Falls, MA and joining a growing department with opportunities for further training and advancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Repair, restore, and set up instruments at the direction of the Workshop Manager
  • Interface with the Sales and Acquisition teams, answer questions, and perform estimates
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the workshop including drafting paperwork, invoicing, cleaning, and organizing

Qualifications:

  • Previous training and with a minimum of 3 years professional experience in the restoration, repair and setup of violins, violas, and cellos preferred
  • Outstanding time management and organization skills
  • Comfort with technology and the ability to use it consistently to record the work you perform
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a quick-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment and collaborate with others

This is a full time, hourly position: 40hrs/wk., $22-28+/hr. commensurate with experience. A relocation stipend is available for those moving from out-of-state.

Full-Time Office Associate, Customer Service Team

Compensation: $17/hour

Johnson String Instrument is hiring an Office Associate to join our Customer Service team.

Are you a focused, detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills that wants to work with a fun group of people?  Are you excited to learn about violins and cellos?  JSI wants you to join our team!

Johnson String Instrument is a large family-owned music instrument retailer that provides high-quality musical instruments and accessories to talented musicians of all levels.

Key Responsibilities:

The office associate is responsible for providing the highest level of customer service to ensure the customer has the best experience possible. As the first point of contact, the office associate will answer customer inquiries and follow-up on action items with other departments to see tasks through to completion.

In addition, the office associate is responsible to perform a variety of administrative duties including, but not limited to:

  • Registration for rental instruments, including phone interaction with students, teachers and parents of rental participants.
  • Take product orders, including strings, sheet music, cases, and accessories.
  • Answer telephone calls, web chats, and emails- screening and routing to appropriate staff as necessary.
  • Various clerical duties such as filing, mailing, organizing, and processing returned items.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and ongoing training regarding products and policies.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as directed or required

Qualifications:

  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Able to multitask on time-sensitive projects
  • Attention to detail, especially through documentation
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, flexible work environment
  • Stringed instrument and/or classical music background strongly preferred
  • Sense of humor strongly encouraged
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Saturdays are required

Full-Time Retail Associate, Customer Service Team

Compensation: $17/hour

Our storefront is a vibrant place where we assist string players of all levels, from beginners to professionals. Our team is comprised of musicians who enjoy working together and helping people on their musical journeys.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with registration for rental instruments, including instrument fitting and selection
  • Retail sales of accessories, sheet music, and student instruments; making product recommendations, giving knowledgeable answers to customer inquiries
  • Processing POS transactions using a cash register and software designed for Johnson String Instrument
  • Merchandising, creating product displays, and overall maintenance of the storefront
  • Participate in ongoing training regarding products and policies
  • Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as directed or required

Full-time: 40hrs/wk, Saturdays required. Applicants should be prepared to have availability for all business hours.

Applicants must have availability during our busiest seasons: September, June, and mid-November through January 2nd.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in at least one bowed string instrument (violin, viola, cello, and/or double bass)

Physical Job Requirements:

Rental Instrument Delivery Driver

Compensation: $18/hour
Employment type: Full-time

Johnson String Instrument is hiring a Rental Instrument Delivery Driver to support our rental programs in MA, CT, and the NYC area.

Johnson String Instrument is a large family-owned music instrument retailer that provides high-quality musical instruments and accessories to talented musicians of all levels. As a Delivery Driver, you will work with our Educational Representatives to provide instrument and supply deliveries and pick-ups from our participating school programs. The specified territory will include MA, CT, and the NYC area and will regularly involve paid overnight travel.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Operate a company owned vehicle to facilitate rental instrument delivery and pick-up.
  • Maintain organized and detailed records
  • Prepare, stage and load the vehicle for deliveries.
  • Maintain maintenance schedule for small fleet of company owned delivery vehicles
  • Serve as back-up driver for daily local inventory transfer

Special Conditions/Licenses:

  • Must have valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and be comfortable operating 20-foot vans in city traffic
  • Must be available for overnight travel one night per week
    • Fuel, lodging and food per diem provided by the company
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and/or a CORI

  • Experienced and safe driver
  • Confident navigating city congestion
  • Ability to follow and adhere to daily delivery schedule

Shipping Warehouse Associate

We are looking for a full time Shipping Associate to join our warehouse team in our climate-controlled Waltham facility.

Main responsibilities will include carefully packing Sales and Rental instruments, picking and packing accessories and sheet music, processing outgoing shipments using company software, assisting with damage claims, and monitoring third party web order fulfillment requirements.

The ideal candidate will have an exceptional eye for detail, strong communication skills, and be able to work well in a fast-paced environment. Solid computer skills and the ability to learn new software is required.

*Must have High School Diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to drive a cargo van (may occasionally be required to use company van)

Warehouse experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right hard-working person with a keen eye for detail and good computer skills!

FULL TIME: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with occasional weekends required during busy seasons (back-to-school, and December holidays).

$18/hour

$500 signing bonus after 90 days
