Carmen Fantasie for violin and piano by Franz Waxman
Edited by Jascha Heifetz. Published by Fidelio Music Publishing
Franz Waxman (1906-1967) was a German-born American composer, known primarily for his many acclaimed film scores, including Rebecca (1941), Sunset Boulevard (1950), and Rear Window (1954). He also composed concert works, including the popular "Carmen Fantasie" (1946), which he had arranged from his score to Humoresque (1946), a melodrama about a violinist and his patroness. Waxman's music is based on various themes from Bizet's opera "Carmen" and is cast in his lush, romantic style. This rare and hard-to-find piece is presented here in a Fidelio edition, edited by the work's dedicatee, the legendary Jascha Heifetz. Master level, Grade 6.
