Sonata No. 21 in E minor, K.304 for violin and piano by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Edited by Henri Schradieck. Published by Schirmer

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) was one of the most prominent composers of the Classical period and is often considered one of the greatest composers of Western art music. A noted child prodigy, he excelled in all genres. His music is revered for its beauty, clarity, balance, and transparency, underpinned by sophisticated craftsmanship.

Mozart left a veritable wealth of music for violinists across his 36 sonatas for violin and piano. These range from early juvenilia-simple yet prodigious-to mature masterpieces. His finest sonata is surely his Sonata No. 21 in E minor, K.304, written shortly after his mother's death in 1778. It is one of his only sonatas in a minor key, filled with wistful and emotional depth unlike any of his other sonatas, with a glorious, serene section in E Major at its center. Intermediate-advanced level, Grade 4.
