Concerto in C Major, Op.48 for violin and piano by Dmitry Kabalevsky
Edited by Josef Gingold. Published by International
Dmitry Kabalevsky (1904-87) was a Russian-Soviet composer and teacher. In contrast to the often turbulent or satirical work of his more famous compatriots Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich, Kabalevsky were more optimistic (and thus more readily accepted by the Soviet censors). He valued clarity of expression, simplicity of form, and folk-based melodies. He wrote pieces for professionals and beginning students alike, though he is perhaps best known for his trio of concertos for piano, violin, and cello. His Violin Concerto in C Major, Op.48 has the hallmarks of his traditional, popular style-notable moments include a song-like, harmonically colorful second movement and a rambunctious finale. This International Edition is perfect for advanced students. Grade 5.
