Album Pieces: 13 easy solos and 2 duets arranged from Opp. 27 & 39 for violin and piano by Dmitry Kabalevsky
Arranged by Konstantin Fortunatow, Gerogi Kirkor, and Konstantin Sorokin. Published by Sikorski
Dmitry Kabalevsky (1904-87) was a Russian-Soviet composer and teacher. In contrast to the often turbulent or satirical work of his more famous compatriots Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich, Kabalevsky were more optimistic (and thus more readily accepted by the Soviet censors). He valued clarity of expression, simplicity of form, and folk-based melodies. While he wrote pieces for professionals such as his celebrated trio of concertos for piano, violin, and cello, he also wrote much for beginning students. This collection of Album Pieces contains various short pieces arranged for violin and piano from his Opp.2 and 39, in loose order of progressive difficulty ranging from beginner to intermediate. Also includes two duets for two violins in the appendix of the violin part (performers play from one score). Includes violin and piano parts. Ranges from grade 1 to 3.
