Molly on the Shore for violin and piano by Percy Grainger
Freely arranged by Fritz Kreisler. Published by Ludwig Masters
Percy Grainger was an Australian composer and pianist known for his experimental and often unusual compositions. He was also a leading figure in the revival of British folk music in the early 20th century, represented in his many folk song arrangements. One of these is "Molly on the Shore" (1907), a composition which incorporates two Cork Reel tunes with considerable freedom: Molly on the Shore and Temple Hill. He wrote numerous versions, including one for string quartet; however, this version for violin and piano was freely arranged by legendary violinist Fritz Kreisler, creating an attractive showpiece for the solo violinist. Advanced level, Grade 5.
