Suite Populaire Espagnole, for violin and piano by Manuel de Falla
Arranged by Paul Kochanski. Published by Max Eschig
Manuel de Falla (1876-1946) was one of Spain's leading composers in the early 20th-century. He consistently blended the colorful, impressionist styles of his time with evocations of Spain's traditional music. This can be heard in his most popular chamber work, Siete canciones populares espanolas (Seven Spanish Folksongs, 1914) for soprano and piano. He set songs from all across Spain, including an asturiana, seguidilla, and a jota. It speaks to the piece's popularity that, with violinist Paul Kochanski, he arranged them for violin and piano as "Suite populaire espagnole." Violinists can enjoy this wonderful set of songs in this Durand edition. Advanced level, Grade 5.
