The Most Beautiful Bacewicz for violin and piano (by Grazyna Bacewicz)
Edited by Eugenia Uminska, Antoni Cofalik, and Irena Dubiska. Published by Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne
Grazyna Bacewicz (1909-1969) was a major Polish composer of the 20th century. Her music is characterized by folk-influenced lyricism, modernist angularity, and bristling energy. She was also a violinist of considerable skill, pursuing studies with Carl Flesch and placing as a finalist in the first Wieniawski International Violin Competition. She became the concertmaster of the Polish Radio Symphony and during World War Two gave secret, underground concerts of her own music.
As Bacewicz was an violin virtuoso, she wrote many outstanding, challenging, and substantial works for the instrument. She wrote several sonatas, showpieces, lyric pieces, character pieces, and dances, several based on traditional Polish and Slavic dances like the Oberek. This fantastic collection brings together several standout works and movements from her works for violin and piano, giving advanced violinists a treasure trove of recital pieces. Advanced level, Grades 4-6.
