Tanz for solo viola by Krzysztof Penderecki
Published by Schott
Krzysztof Penderecki (1933-2020) was an outstanding Polish composer of the late 20th century. He garnered fame from his striking avant-garde works focusing on sound masses, including his ''Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima'' (1961) for 52 string instruments. In his mature period, he would combine his avant-garde tendencies with a neo-romantic approach, with more of a focus on solo strings and choral music.
Penderecki's short ''Tanz (Dance)'' (2009) was originally written for a young violin pupil. It is an energetic, baroque-inspired encore piece perfect for the intermediate student. It is presented here in an arrangement for solo viola. Advanced level, Grade 5.
