Three Duets for two violas by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach
edited by Joachim Altemark and Joseph Vieland. Published by International
Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-84) was the eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach and an accomplished composer in his own right, though his work is lesser known today. He combined a contrapuntal skill inherited from his father with his own original improvistory approach.
His set of three viola duets, F.60-62 date from around 1775, his late Berlin period. They create a rich dialogue between the two instruments, using his characteristic blend of contrapuntal and improvistory styles. Intermediate-advanced level, Grade 4.
