String Trio in G minor ''On a Russian Folk Song'' by Alexander Borodin
Published by Opus Cello
Opus Cello specializes in high-quality cello arrangements, often for 2 or more cellos, from the classical repertory and beyond. Its music has been performed by the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, Gautier Capucon, Kian Soltani, Sol Gabetta, Frans Helmerson, and more, as well as the Boston Cello Quartet and cello sections of major orchestras from around the world. First spearheaded by Blaise Dejardin, principal cellist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, it has grown to feature arrangements by Aurelien Sabouret, Sebastien Walnier, Renaud Guieu, and James Barralet. These publications help to greatly expand the repertoire for avid cello ensembles and chamber groups.
Borodin's String Trio in G minor (1855) is a rare example of a 19th-century work for string trio. It is one of his earliest works, yet still shows his melodic gift. It is a short set of eight variations on the Russian folk song ''What have I done to hurt you?'' This arrangement for three cellos by Blaise Dejardin brings this long-lost piece to cello ensembles everywhere. For advanced players. Includes parts and score.
