Adagio-Andante quasi Allegretto from The Creatures of Prometheus, Op.43/5 for six cellos by Ludwig van Beethoven
Arranged by Eric Bartlett. Published by International
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was the most influential and admired composer of the Romantic Era, and is considered today to be among the greatest composers of classical music to ever live. His music is known variously for its compositional rigor, sublime beauty, organic development, gripping urgency, and life-affirming, universal humanism. He left a significant mark on almost every classical genre he worked in, from string quartets to symphonies.
Beethoven's ''The Creatures of Prometheus'' (1801) is his only ballet. It is based on the myth of Prometheus, who stole from fire from the gods to create mankind. Beethoven's Enlightenment ideals are reflected in the plot, which sees humans being taught arts and science by the gods. The beautiful, lyrical Tableau No. 5, ''Adagio-Andante quasi Allegretto'', sees Amphion, Arion, and Orpheus teach the humans about music. This arrangement by Eric Bartlett for six cellos further expands the cello ensemble repertory. Advanced level, Grade 5.
