French bowmaker Marie Chastagnol was trained as a cabinet maker before attending the French National School of Lutherie in Mirecourt. Upon leaving school, she worked with various master craftspeople including Jean-Frédéric Schmidt, Arthur Dubroca, and Alexandre Aumont. It was during these experiences that Marie gained an interest in pursuing bow making. This interest led her to work with Yannick Le Canu in Lille and Georges Tépho in Quimper, and she remained in Quimper to establish her own workshop when Tépho left for Paris in 2017.
Marie’s bows have found acclaim among top-level players around the world, and in 2022 she was awarded a Certificate of Merit for Artisanship for a violin bow submitted to the Violin Society of America competition held in Anaheim, CA.
