American violin maker John Dailey attended the Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City from 1999 to 2003 where he studied violin making and its history, music theory, art, and technical drawing. He later worked with various luthiers including John Young and Ryan Soltis. In 2008, John joined the workshop staff of Carriage House Violins, serving as workshop manager for several years before establishing himself as an independent luthier.

A constant innovator, John actively researches current technologies and how they can be applied to the craft of making and restoring instruments. In 2012, he gave a presentation at the Violin Society of America convention demonstrating how modern tools can be added to the techniques utilized by luthiers to maintain and enhance the structural integrity, authenticity, and performance qualities of the instruments with which he is entrusted. John currently works out of his studio in the Providence, RI area, building instruments based on Italian masters as well as repairing and maintaining instruments for a variety of players.
