Rainer Beilharz began his violin making career in 1982 with John Ferwerda in Melbourne, Australia. He worked for seven years in Germany, including two years with Bernhard Franke, and three with Antoine Muller in Stuttgart. In 1997, Beilharz returned to Australia to establish his own workshop. He was a co-organizer of the groundbreaking Violin Making Conferences in Guildford, Victoria in 2003, 2006, and 2012, and is a founding member of the Australian Violin Makers Association.
Beilharz's instruments have won numerous recognitions at the Violin Society of America competitions, including Silver Medals for a cello and a violin in 2012, and for another cello in 2014.
