Contemporary Italian luthier Filippo Fasser was born in Salò, Italy near Brescia. He studied at the International Violin Making School of Cremona, graduating in 1988. From his workshop in the heart of Brescia, Fasser currently builds violins, violas, and cellos on commission for professional players from around the world. In 2001, Fasser co-founded Officina Musicale, an organization that promotes the work of Brescian artists through conferences, festivals, and exhibitions. He has curated several instrument exhibitions, including those featuring the instruments of Brescian violin makers Paolo Maggini and Stefano Scarampella.

Awards for Fasser's instruments include a silver medal from the Violin Society of America in 2008. His instruments are owned by celebrated string players including Elisa Citterio, Yuri Bashmet, David Ballesteros, Glauco Bertagnin, Mario Brunello, Clive Greensmith, and Sol Gabetta.
