American luthier Stephen Cournoyer studied violin making and restoration at the North Bennet Street School in Boston. After an apprenticeship with with Jonathan Cooper in Portland, Maine, he established his own workshop. He has attended numerous workshops held each summer by the Violin Society of America in Oberlin, Ohio, and is a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers. From his current studio in Windham, ME, he builds and restores violins, violas, cellos, and fretted instruments, and also teaches violin making.
