Julia Jostes and Simon Eberl established their workshop in the historic Hanseatic city of Lübeck, Germany in 2016. Both makers studied at the Mittenwald School of Violin Making and continued training as makers and restorers in various workshops in France, Austria, and Germany. The makers' research has included participation in acoustical workshops presented by Claudia Fritz and George Stoppani in France as well as in the Oberlin Summer Workshops sponsored by the Violin Society of America. Jostes and Eberl have won numerous awards at Violin Society of American competitions including a Gold Medal for Tone for Quartet, Silver Medal for Tone for Quartet, Silver Medal for Artisanship for Cello, and Certificates of Artisanship for quartet, violin, and viola. Simon presently serves as co-organizer of the Brandenburg Violin Making Workshop.
