Serenade in C Major, K.648 "Ganz kleine Nachtmusik" for two violins and basso (cello or bass) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Urtext edition by Christoph Koop. Published by C.F. Peters
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) was one of the most prominent composers of the Classical period and is often considered one of the greatest composers of Western art music. A noted child prodigy, he excelled in all genres. His music is revered for its beauty, clarity, balance, and transparency, underpinned by sophisticated craftsmanship.
In September 2024, a set of parts for an unnamed chamber composition two violins and basso found in the Leipzig Municipal Music Library was identified as the previously lost Serenade in C Major, K648, referred to in a letter by Mozart's sister Maria Anna as "Ganz kleine Nachtmusik" (Very little night music). It was likely written in the mid to late 1760s when Mozart was a teenager. It is delightful, diverting music consisting of seven miniature movements lasting together about 12 minutes. This Peters urtext edition--its very first publication--contains parts for violin 1, violin 2, and basso, playable by either cello or bass. Includes score and parts. Intermediate-advanced level, Grade 4.
