Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) was one of the most prominent composers of the Classical period and is often considered to be one of the greatest composers of Western art music. A noted child prodigy, he excelled in all genres. His music is revered for its beauty, clarity, balance, and transparency, underpinned by sophisticated craftsmanship.
Mozart's Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K.581 (1789) was written for renowned Viennese clarinetist Anton Stadler, for whom Mozart wrote several other works. It is a showpiece for the clarinet and its dulcet tone, especially its beauty in playing long-breathed phrases. The string quartet also get its time in the spotlight in the minuet and trio. This Henle urtext edition also includes a fragment for the same scoring in B-flat Major, K. Anh. 91 (516c). Parts only. Advanced level, Grade 5.
