Piano Quintet in A Minor, Op.84 (parts and score) by Edward Elgar
Published by Novello
Elgar's Piano Quintet (1918) is undoubtedly his grandest chamber masterpiece, a late flowering of Romanticism with orchestral expansiveness. He was inspired by a bare thicket of gnarled trees near his summer home, which, legend had it, were Spanish sorcerers whose dastardly spells left them transfigured as such. Spanish elements tinge all three movements, which range from impassioned and agitated, haunted and ghostly, and serene and melancholy. Score and parts.
