Tan Dun (b 1957) is possibly the most prominent living Chinese composer, thanks in no small part to his acclaimed film scores like ''Hero'' and ''Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon''. His music is incredibly varied, ranging from lyrical, romantic music to impressionism to cutting-edge modernism--though almost all of it works to combine Chinese and Western classical traditions.
His solo cello piece ''Intercourse of Fire and Water'' is taken from his concerto of the same name and features his characteristic blend of styles and traditions. Master level, Grade 6.
