Allegro Appassionato, op. 43, cello and piano by Camille Saint-Saens

Published by International Edition. Edited by Leonard Rose

Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921) was the preeminent French composer of his day--perhaps even of the Romantic Era. He revered form and craft, finding inspiration in the music of the past--yet was known for his melodic gift, invention, and harmonic adventurousness. He made important contributions to several forms, particularly for string-players.

In 1872, Saint-Saens wrote two serious, weighty works for the cello: the Concerto No. 1 and the Sonata No. 1. In 1873, he countered these works with his Allegro Appassionato, Op.43, a lighter, breezier work more accessible for both audiences and players. Today it has become a stalwart in the repertory of the developing cello student. For intermediate-advanced players. Includes piano and cello part.
