To a Wild Rose (from Woodland Sketches, Op.51) for cello and piano by Edward Macdowell

Arranged by Gregory Aller. Published by Rubank

Edward MacDowell (1860-1908) was one of the most prominent American composers of the Romantic Era. One of the first internationally known American composers, he wrote in many genres, but is perhaps best known for his piano concertos and tuneful miniatures. Just before his early death at age 47, and with the guidance of his wife Marian, he established MacDowell (formerly the MacDowell Colony) in Peterborough, New Hampshire, today known as the pre-eminent artist's residency campus in America.

One of his most famous melodies is ''To a Wild Rose'', from his piano collection Woodland Sketches, Op.51 (1896). Its beauty is rendered here into a simple arrangement for beginning-intermediate cello students by Gregory Aller. Grade 2.
