Sonata in C, op. 65, Cello; Benjamin Britten (Boosey & Hawkes)
Catalog ID: CEBRITSONATCBH

Published by Boosey & Hawkes

Benjamin Britten wrote his Cello Sonata in C, Op.65 in 1961 for Mstislav Rostropovich after attending the eminent Russian cellist's powerhouse performance of Shostakovich's first cello concerto. It is cast in five movements, including an all-pizzicato scherzo and a final 'moto perpetuo' that uses Shostakovich's DSCH motif as a tribute to the Russian composer. Britten went on to write four more cello works for Rostropovich.
