Angelo Molia violin, Genoa circa 1750
Catalog ID: C-2023

An unlabeled Italian violin made, in our opinion, by Angelo Molia in Genoa circa 1750.

18th century Italian violin maker Angelo Molia is among the few makers who worked in Genoa, Italy a generation before the birth of the city's most famous string player, Niccolò Paganini. Although little is known about Molia's life, the rare instruments attributed to him date between 1749 and 1765, and show the rustic, free form influences of other important but little known Genoese makers preceding him, including Bernardo Calcagni (Calcagno, Calcanius) and Giuseppe Cavaleri.

Sold with certificates of authenticity from Charles Beare and Reuning and Son Violins.
