Cesare Magrini (b. 1958) began his apprenticeship in the mid 1970s with his uncle, Primo Contavalli near Bologna, Italy. He worked for Otello Bignami and Ansaldo Poggi in Bologna, then Mario Capicchioni in Rimini, before moving to Rome to work for Giuseppe Lucci. A highly respected copyist of the Cremonese, Bolognese, and Emilian masters, Magrini is a member of the National Association of Italian Artistic Violin Making, and has served as the director of the Music Department of the Babuino Auction House in Rome. He is the author of a biography on Augusto and Gaetano Pollastri.
