Italian maker Carlo Schiavi was born in San Bassano in the province of Cremona in 1908 and died in Piacenza in 1943. He was among the first luthiers of the early 20th century Cremonese violin making revival begun in Cremona in 1937, the bicentennial of Antonio Stradivari's death. He is distinguished for being the first teacher to be appointed at the newly founded Cremona International School of Violin Making in 1938. His career was cut short when he died in 1943 while serving in the military during the Second World War.
