French luthier Louis Auguste Lagarenne (also La Garenne) was born in 1889 in the violin making center of Mirecourt, France and died in 1928 in Brussels, Belgium. He studied with Honoré Derazey in Mirecourt before moving to Brussels, where he married the daughter of luthier Hilaire Darche and worked for the renowned Darche Frères firm. Lagarenne received a gold medal at the 1913 World's Exhibition held in Ghent, Belgium and took over the Darche workshop in 1915.
