John Aniano became interested in bow making while studying violin as a teenager, building several bows by self-taught methods. While a student in the Industrial Arts program at Montclair University, he began formal bow making training in the New York City workshop of William Salchow. He worked for Salchow for several years, before enrolling at Rutgers University to study ceramic engineering.
After working in fiber optics and telecommunications for many years, Aniano returned to bow making. His bows have won numerous recognitions at the Violin Society of America competitions, including two Gold Medals: one for his cello bow in 2006 and one for a viola bow in 2010. He currently builds bows from his workshop in Allentown, New Jersey.
