German violin maker Joseph Fischer was born in Füssen in 1746 and died in Regensburg in 1834. He apprenticed with Johann Anton Gedler in Füssen, then worked briefly in Vienna before returning to Germany to settle in Regensburg. Fischer built instruments based on Stainer models as well as Cremonese models, and is regarded as one of the most important German makers of the early 19th century.
