German bow maker Max Wunderlich was born in Erlbach, Bavaria in 1893 and died there in 1968. He apprenticed in Hermann Richard Pfretzschner's famous workshop in Markneukirchen and completed his journeyman training with Hermann Wilhelm Prell, before establishing his own workshop. Because limited biographical information exists, it is unclear whether he is related to Friedrich Fritz Christoph Wunderlich (18781966), another well-known bow maker working in Markneukirchen at the same time, or other subsequent luthiers with the popular Wunderlich surname.
