French luthier Claude Chevrier was born in 1798 in Mirecourt and died there in 1878. His instrument models were often based on those by Didier Nicolas, one of the most influential makers in Mirecourt at the end of the late 18th century into the early 19th century. Patriarch of one of the many violin making dynasties in Mirecourt, his sons Amable and Claude Auguste were also accomplished makers, working there and later in Paris into the early 20th century.
This violin, made c. 1850, is in excellent condition and reflects Chevrier's outstanding workmanship.
