Bearing the patent number of Rudolph Dopyera, this early Style 27G Dobro is a very unique instrument. This guitar sports the body of an original California made Dobro from 1933-34 with a replacement neck. The mahogany neck was likely a replacement for the factory square neck option which was replaced prior to it came into the possession of its most recent owner who acquired the instrument in the late 60's. The neck has been designed in a Martin style with a squared off slotted headstock and snowflake position markers on an ebony fingerboard. It has a comfortable full C shape and has great playing heights for both slide and traditional playing.
The body features a two tone sunburst laminate top. The bound top features two round screen holes with no top holes at the end of the fingerboard. The stained laminate back and sides do not feature any binding which is the primary indicator that this instrument was built in California prior to the manufacturing being taken over by Regal.
There have been no previous repairs aside from the replacement neck and what appears to be a period accurate replacement tailpiece. The guitar shows the normal play wear of an instrument of its age.
If you are looking for the authentic Dobro sound while maintaining modern playing comfort and not breaking the budget, this is the instrument for you.
