German Bohemian bow maker Rudolph Dotschkail (1923–1996) lived in the Egerland region of the Czech Republic and studied bow making in Graslitz, Bohemia. After Germany was defeated in World War II, Dotschkail was among the more than 12,000 Germans exiled from Western Bohemia to Germany, where he established his own workshop in 1951 in the Frankonian town of Eltersdorf, near Erlangen. Dotschkail was one of the few bowmakers of this tradition to sell his bows directly to players.
