Stephen Cournoyer cello, Windham, ME 2011
American luthier Stephen Cournoyer (b. 1975) studied violin making and restoration at the North Bennet Street School in Boston. After an apprenticeship with with Jonathan Cooper in Portland, Maine, he established his own business. He has continued his study and research at the annual summer violin making workshops sponsored by the Violin Society of America at Oberlin College in Ohio, and is a member of the American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers. From his current studio in Windham, Maine, he builds and restores violins, violas, cellos, and fretted instruments, and also teaches violin making.
