With a background in fine arts and woodworking, restorer and violin maker Samuel Payton began his career as a violin maker in 2006 as an apprentice with Christopher Germain in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He currently works in restoration at Frederick W. Oster Fine Violins, and builds new instruments based on Guarneri del Gesù, Guadagnini, Gofriller, and other models from his own workshop in South Philadelphia. Sam incorporates cutting-edge scanning and CNC machinery to build precise copies and perform complex repairs.
