A third generation luthier from the De Luccia family of Italian instrument makers, Gennaro De Luccia was born in 1911 in Casigliano, Sessa Cilento, where he learned to build plucked and bowed instruments from his father Michele (I, 1848-1924), alongside his cousins Vincenzo (b. 1882) and Michele (II, 1912-1980). In 1951, Gennaro immigrated to the United States, where he worked for Rembert Wurlitzer in New York City. Gennaro De Luccia later worked in Miami, Florida, where he retired in 1978.
