Concetto Puglisi violin, Catania 1923
Catalog ID: A-VN/2901

A descendant of the Puglisi dynasty of instrument builders based in Catania, Sicily since the early 19th century, Concetto Puglisi (b. 1882) worked together with his brother Michelangelo (1879-1951) at Reale Puglisi & Figlio, a firm began by their father Reale Puglisi (1852-1914) in 1880. The company grew to become one of the largest Italian manufacturers of bowed and plucked stringed instruments, and still thrives today in Catania under the name Alfredo Privitera, who inherited the company in 1962. The long-lived Puglisi dynasty of luthiers also continues today at Atelier Puglisi, a workshop in Australia, founded by Benedict Puglisi in 1995.
