Nathan Edson

Nathan Edson worked in Boston, around 1904-08. Unfortunately, we have no biographical information on Edson, just his fine violins to know him by. A label on the inside of this violin describes the wood: "The top is made of wood taken from the Old South Building, 100 years old when torn down about 1901..."

This violin was made in Boston in 1904 and is labeled No. 34. The varnish is a rich, dark, transparent brown that shows the gorgeous wood flame of the one-piece maple back and the curly spruce of the top. The tone quality is pure, sweet and warm.
