Originally from the Netherlands, Marten Cornelissen has been making violins, violas, and cellos in Northampton, Massachusetts, since 1969. His significant output of instruments includes a viola commissioned by Samuel Rhodes of the Juilliard quartet, who describes it as one of the finest violas my colleaqgues and I have ever heard. The craftsmanship, golden varnish, and tone quality of this 2006 Cornelissen viola are outstanding.
The viola has a rich and round tone quality and a wonderfully live playing response.
