What about cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your system. The cookie file can save information, such as your name, past online purchases, and your favorite Internet pages. If you've ever wondered how it is that a home page is able to greet you by name, then you've seen cookie technology at work. Johnson's uses cookie technology to update your online shopping cart and is one of thousands of companies which uses cookies to deliver personalized content to its customers.

Through your browser preferences, you can control the use of cookies. You can choose to accept a cookie or not. At times, if you do not accept the cookie, you will not be able to access a Web page. If you want to accept the cookie, you can later delete it from your windows\cookies directory. Below are some instructions on how to set cookie preferences:

Netscape

Navigator 3:

1. From the Options menu, select Network Preferences.
2. Select the Protocols tab.
3. Select to be alerted about incoming cookies.

Navigator 4:

1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
2. Select Advanced, and four options about cookies appear.
3. Select Help for further information about these options.

Microsoft

Internet Explorer 3:

1. From the View menu, select Options.
2. Select the Advanced tab.
3. Select to be warned before accepting cookies.

Internet Explorer 4:

1. From the View menu, select Internet Options.
2. Select the Advanced tab.
3. Scroll down to the yellow triangle icon labeled "Cookies."
4. Select one of 3 options concerning cookies.
